The American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania has joined and supports the “4 procentai” initiative. This is an initiative of civil society aimed at urging Lithuanian politicians to agree on allocating 4% of GDP to Lithuania’s defense as soon as possible. The initiative was launched by “Unicorns Lithuania,” a Lithuanian startup association, along with the Lithuanian Business Confederation and the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists. Each day, more businesses and organizations committed to our country’s security are joining the initiative. Despite our differences, we stand united, shoulder-to-shoulder, as ensuring the safety of Lithuania is now our paramount goal.
According to a poll conducted in February 2024 by “Norstat LT,” a public opinion and market research company, an absolute majority (57%) of Lithuanians agree that our country should increase its expenditure on national defense to up to 4% of its GDP. Additionally, 69% of respondents prefer politicians to agree to increase funding for defense as soon as possible.
All the signatures collected by the “4 percent” initiative, along with the petition text, will be forwarded to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, the Seimas, and the Government. This action is planned to take place during the spring session of the Seimas.
