Ūkio bankas is the first in Lithuania to Introduce Payments by Card in Self-Service Terminals

2010 07 27

Ūkio bankas is the first bank in Lithuania to open a new market of banking services - processing payments by card in self-service terminals.
Until now most of self-service terminals operating in Lithuania accepted only payments in cash.

Ūkio bankas is the first in Lithuania to have certified a payment card processing device integrated in self-service terminals. From now on Lithuanian citizens will have the possibility to use another modern form of payment.

Bills for utilities, communication and other services now can be paid in Lithuanian Post payment machines, where Ūkio bankas, with the help of UAB First Data Lietuva specialists, have implemented an innovative payment solution.

"In Lithuania, unlike in other European countries, it was not possible to pay for car parking, to buy tickets, to pay duties and fees for various services by card - you always had to have some cash. Our payment card readers integrated into self-service terminals were certified by international organizations MasterCard Worldwide and Visa International. We introduced an integrated chip payment card reading solution that will enable safe and reliable payment by bank cards in many self-service terminals. Our solution gives all holders of MasterCard and VISA cards issued by Lithuanian and foreign banks to make use of this novelty," said director of Ūkio bankas Payment Card Department Ms. Jūratė Kajackienė.

Ms. Jūratė Kajackienė noted that Lithuanian market has been waiting a long time for the possibility to make payments by card in self-service terminals because more and more services are rendered to Lithuanian population via self-service terminals, such as payment for utilities, telecommunication, internet, cable TV services, payment of insurance premiums, prepayment of phone cards, payment for parking, buying tickets to various entertainment events etc.

Ūkio bankas introduced the first payment card readers in Lithuanian Post payment machines and have noticed the increasing interest in this service. At present Ūkio bankas negotiates with other service providers with regard to the installation of card readers in their self-service terminals.
