On November 26th, 2009 the United States is celebrating the Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving Day is a joyous family festival celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in the United States, Canada and several other countries. Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditionally it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. In the United States the Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
The traditional "first Thanksgiving" is the celebration that occurred at the site of Plymouth Plantation, in 1621. (Plymouth Colony (sometimes New Plymouth) was an English colonial venture in North America from 1620 to 1691). On this day people express gratitude to God for his blessings and give thanks to dear ones for their love and support. Feasting with family is an integral and most delightful part of Thanksgiving Day celebrations.
Thanksgiving dinner is held on this day, usually as a gathering of family members and friends. The traditional stuffed turkey adorns every dinner table during the feast. Pumpkin pie, Cranberry sauce, Corns are some of the dishes cooked everywhere to mark the day. Though historians do not have an evidence to prove that turkey was eaten during the first Thanksgiving dinner, but the thanksgiving celebration will be incomplete without it.
Happy Thanksgiving Day!
